A ceremony marking the founding of the Portugal-United States Friendship Association was held on September 11, 2002 at the Grémio Literário in Lisbon.
About 100 people attended, including: Romano de Castro, representing His Excellency the Speaker of the Portuguese parliament; Bernardo Ribeiro da Cunha, representing His Excellency the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities; Robert Blau, representing the US Embassy; Prof João Carlos Espada of Universidade Católica’s Institute of Political Studies (IEP), His Royal Highness Dom Duarte Duque de Bragança and Nuno da Câmara Pereira.
